It was a dark Sunday, multiple thunderstorms had occured, but that was normal. I was used to it by now having moved from sunny California to dark and gloomy Wales, but this time, it was different. While the storm raged on and on all day, people around me seemed to be having a wonderful time as if it weren’t pouring.
As the day went on, I wanted to curl up in a blanket with some hot chocolate, but my mom even proposed a beach day! Instead, I went to the library to read. I was browsing through a section of the library I had never been to before, which was weird because I have searched every part of this library since I moved here, three years ago. That’s when I saw a book, it looked like it was hidden in the crevice of the shelf. It was a velvety purple and it shone against the light of the moon. Wait, the moon? It had already been that late? I wrapped myself in my coat and ran out of the library. I had to get home fast.
It was almost midnight, as I slowly crept towards the window in my room I had a weird feeling. It was almost as if I were in a dream as I gently pulled at the pink, flowered curtains and saw something that I thought I Would never see again. I was wrong.

I woke up in the morning and started to pull on the plaid skirt and matching white and red blazer set when I realized that it was finally summer! I quickly swapped out the terrible tube socks of Wales Private Girls School. Yesterday was probably a dream and none of it ever happened. This was just a normal Monday in the summer. I was going to Paris with my best friend tomorrow, and Yesterday I went to research books on travel spots and there wasn’t a new section in the library, and I certainly didn’t take a book and it definitely didn’t summon an alicorn that I used to have dreams about riding on. The soft ringing of the doorbell downstairs snapped me out of my trance. Suddenly I looked up and saw the book. It definitely was not a dream
Brooklyn has been my best friend since kindergarten. She moved to Wales soon after I did, while I always thought it was strange, I was grateful for someone to be there for me during hard times. I heard her greet our dog, Ollie, and run up the steps and she greeted me, grinning. I hated greeting her with bad news but this was serious, she had also had these dreams except hers were of a dark pegasus rather than a white alicorn. As I told her of the rain and how I was the only one who seemed to have felt it, a blinding light flashed out my window. She panicked and suddenly told me that I needed to pack my bags quickly and that she had an early flight to Paris. I was very suspicious at this point but I believed her because she never lied to me.
When we got to the airport she checked us in and in no time we were in a terminal but no one seemed to be in line. I asked her if we got first class. She just ignored me and said something to the worker in a foreign language. It was not French because I was learning French for this trip but I seemed to recognize some of the words. That’s weird, I’ve never heard any of them before. We got on the plane and I realized it wasn’t a plane at all, it was a private jet. Before I had a chance to even tell Brook of my excitement, she motioned for me to sit down and I had a feeling this was serious.
As we settled into our seats on the private jet, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of foreboding. What was going on? Why were we being whisked away to Paris like this? She told me a story of a world where there were magical and mythical creatures roaming wild. As she got deeper into the story, I realized this was the exact story from my dreams. I decided to tell her about the book, which I had hidden from her telling her of the secret section in the library. She said we needed to fulfill a prophecy given by her grandfather. and that we needed to get to the land, a place that I have only seen in my dreams, and save the world.
As we got off the plane we settled into the beautiful fields of our dream world. We were greeted with bad news though, an evil master of magic crept behind us and grabbed Brooklyn by the wrists. His bony figure was thin but broad and he was strong, easily picking her up by her wrists. He told me to give him the book but I knew I couldn’t surrender. Then, I heard something in my brain, a voice. Use the book. And so I did, I opened the book and it flipped to a page as if waiting there for me. I saw incantations in a mythical language but I knew I had to recite it. I started reciting and realized I was levitating as I got deeper into the spell, the stronger I got, creating an orb of darkness in front of me. As I said the last word, I felt all of the power slip away as I fell to the ground.
As I rolled over, I saw Brooklyn and my Alicorn. What was that spell? it was a banishing spell, you defeated him! She happily replied as we walked hand in hand on the grassy meadow. I couldn’t believe I had defeated the most powerful wizard with my spell! I hope I don’t have to do it again soon though.
