Alec and Maverick were enjoying their hot summer vacation, riding their bikes around Memphis, Tennessee, unsticking their shirts from their backs after every turn. Their first stop was the sports card shop to see if they had any Trevor Lawrence cards. While they were there they looked around for some of his rookie cards. Alec stayed near the front by the cashier, and Maverick headed towards the back, with all the football memorabilia, determined to find those cards. Next, Maverick asked the cashier if they had any of his rookies and the cashier replied, “ The last one was taken by the old man who walked out before you guys entered.” As soon as the cashier said that, Maverick called Alec over, afterwards Maverick asked if he knew his name and the cashier commented,
“Phillip Cameron, he lives right down the street from Alec’s house on Stratford avenue.” So Maverick thanked the cashier and left.
The two boys went to the convenience store after that to get sugar filled snacks so they could stay up all night. Once they got home from the convenience store, Maverick and Alec went into the lounge room and ate their snacks and played NBA 2K until midnight. Then, they went up to Alec’s room to play mini hoop basketball and finish their snacks. When they were done it was about three in the morning so they went back downstairs to make sure they didn’t wake up anyone sleeping in the rooms around them. As they were winding down, Alec asked Maverick, “Should we try to talk to that guy about the card?” Then Maverick responded with,
“ Why not, it is worth a try, just make sure to bring extra money just in case he gives up a high price for the card.” Alec agreed and they went to sleep on the idea.
Once they woke up in the morning, Alec’s mom was making breakfast and as they waited for her to finish, they played Fortnite to pass the time. As soon as Alec’s mom called the boys in they feasted on freshly made chocolate chip pancakes, eggs, bacon, and fruit. As they were eating they discussed their plan for the day. They were planning to walk over to the old man’s house and retrieve the card they always wanted. After breakfast, they freshened up and changed to go on their mission. On their way to the man’s house they saw the man driving away and Maverick chased him and hollered,
“Wait!”
Once the man got to the stop sign, Maverick had caught up to him and pleaded with him,” How much do you want for the Lawrence rookie card? I heard you got the last one from the guy at the card shop and me and my friend would really like the card.”
“Sorry kids, my grandson is in the hospital who loves watching Lawrence and -it is his birthday, so I thought it would be a perfect gift.”
Maverick exclaimed,
“Sorry to hear that, I think he needs it more than we do, you should go give it to him, he will love it.” The boys went home wondering what to do with the rest of their day. Alec requests,
“Maybe we could go to the basketball court, you never know we might meet Ja Morant.” Maverick remarked after,
”Yeah that does sound good, but I think we should go meet that kid. It would be a really good gift for him to see Trevor Lawrence, you know since my older sister knows him from college.” Consequently, Maverick called his sister and asked her to see if Trevor could come and meet the kid. After Maverick got off the phone with his sister, his sister called Trevor to see if they would be up to meet the kid. While they were on the phone Maverick’s sister, Lola, asked Trevor, “ My little brother just called me and said that there is a sick kid in the hospital who wants to meet you, I was just wondering if you would be up for it?”

“ Of course I love doing that stuff, where would this kid be?”
Lola commented, “ Memphis.”
Trevor responded,
“Ok, I will be down there by tomorrow.”
So as they waited, Maverick asked his mom if he could stay, and since it was summer and he had nothing to do the next day she said yes. After that they went to the basketball court to breathe in some fresh air and relax to see if there were any pickup games going on. After they were done they left to go get lunch at a pizza place nearby. While they were at the pizza place, Lola called Maverick and asked what the kid name was and Maverick replied back with,
“I have no idea the man never told us, it kind of seemed like he was in a rush.”
Lola responded with,
“That doesn’t really help, Trevor wanted to sign a jersey for him.”
Maverick quickly stated,
“Just tell him to say – for my biggest fan.”
“Ok.” Lola replied. Once they got home they went in and played hide and seek in the basement. While they were playing someone rang the doorbell, and eager to see who it was Maverick ran to see who it was and when he opened the door standing there was Trevor Lawrence- the quarterback for the Jaguars- ready to go to the hospital to transform the kid’s life.
Off they went to the hospital to give the kid the greatest gift he could ever ask for. Once they arrived they went to the front desk to ask if there was anyone with the last name Cameron. The person at the front desk said, “Yup, room 249.”
Once they got to the room Trevor knocked on the door and the kid’s face lit up, giving him the most joy he has ever felt. The kid jumped up out of his bed and hugged him, walking for
