It’s almost morning, and I’m on patrol watching the horizon. Ever since we caught wind that Eldor might awaken, we had been on higher guard. I was riding my giant white dog Maximus, and saw a shadow coming over the mountains. Then, I heard a faint roar, and I knew it must be him. I ride Maximus towards the city of Almore to warn them that he is coming. I burst through the golden double doors and say, “Prepare for battle.” King Moravo yells, “Everyone to your battlements!” The alarm sounds. Suddenly, the air is split with screams. Then, above everything else, I hear the roar of a dragon that almost sounds like a boom of thunder. Everything becomes silent. People start running in terror. I push through the crowd to the north tower to see how close he is.
About a kilometer out, there is a storm and through the storm, you can see Eldor. He is fast approaching. We have less than 5 minutes! I run down to Maximus, hop on his back, pet him, and say “Just one more ride, old pal.”
Maximus starts at a simple trot, then quickly accelerates to a sprint. I look back on the city that I adore and think of all my family. I look at the oncoming storm and think about all I’ve done, all the battles I have fought, and I feel calm. I realize this is my only choice, I have to fight. I think to myself that I am doing this for all the people I love.
I lead the troops into battle because I am Kalieo and I am their leader. I will fight for my city. My army and I charge. We are now a fourth of a kilometer away from the dragon. I hear a great noise coming from the storm, almost as if it was powering up. Now the dragon comes out of the storm and I see he must be 100 meters long! Blue light is charging up its neck and then blasts from its mouth as a blinding blue jet of energy. I dodge the blast, but some of our troops are utterly destroyed.
I am angry now. I charge harder. Maximus and I can’t run as fast because the wind of the storm is fighting against us. Now I am very close to the dragon. My ears only hear the roaring of the storm and the bellow of the dragon. I take out my sword, lean in close to Maximus, and say “Jump!”
His legs load like springs and he jumps up high enough to touch the dragon’s head which I leap over and land on the back of the mighty dragon. It rears up and blows a jet of blue energy into the sky. I am thrown backward and fall off the dragon as it soars upward.
I begin falling and my stomach feels like it is still up with the dragon. I am almost going to crash into the ground and brace myself for the impact, but out of nowhere Maximus jumps for me. I grab onto him and hold on for dear life. Then I remind myself that I have to fight. It is my job.
We land on the ground. I look up and see that the beast is far away and circling back. I realize that he is more powerful than I thought, and we need a new plan. I can’t try and run alone; he is too powerful. I have my troops and I could use them, but we need a strategy.
The archers could fire at the dragon and draw its attention, while the troops charged from the left and I could sneak up on the right. I look up at the lead archer and tell him to fire at my signal. I begin wondering why the dragon is giving me so much time and then I see something that truly scares me.
There is a glow coming off the dragon so bright I can barely see, then the wind starts picking up and there is a roaring coming from the dragon so loud it is deafening. The ground starts cracking and dust is flying around. It is almost morning but it is getting darker. Then a low and menacing mist spread across the ground. It is surging towards us like a wave. The mist envelopes us.
It starts to clear and I look around for my second in command, Leroy. He as is 10 meters away. I call his name and he turns to look at me. His eyes are glowing blue and there is some kind of aura around him. Then I look around, noticing for the first time that there are more people with glowing blue eyes.
There are still a good amount of people with normal eyes looking scared and confused. But then the troops with the blue glowing eyes attack.
I yell, “Don’t kill them, just put them in custody!” I don’t know if I am heard, but I charge toward the dragon knowing that this will all stop if I just kill him. People with glowing blue eyes jump at me, but I dodge them and keep running, knowing that the dragon will be weakened by its use of power. And sure enough, when I look at the glowing blue dragon, it isn’t as bright.
I call Maximus to me. We stumble against the wind over the rough and cracked ground toward the dragon. We are almost to the dragon when I look back at the battle and see that we are losing and there are already some casualties. I get new courage and encourage Maximus to charge through the storm faster.
Then with one command, Maximus launches me into the air. I fly at the enormous beast. The world around me frozen in time; every head turned towards me as I fly. I cut through the beast and with a colossal roar it explodes. We have won!
